COWBOY is an article
produced from leather of exclusively European origin, mainly
steer or bull hides. The purpose is to obtain the maximum
cutting yield. From the initial to the final stage, every
operation of the tanning process is carefully monitored and
controlled.
High quality leather is
the result of a continuous sequence of advanced
technological operations combined with traditional artisan
procedures.
The tanning operation is
computer-managed, as the time cycles and formulas must be
precisely adhered to. Tanning is performed in stainless
steel vats to prevent any overheating of the leather and
ensure the integrity of the epidermis.
The dyeing operation is
carried out in vats made of African Teak or Iroko wood: the
handcrafting skills that have distinguished the production
of the Finco tanning works since 1865 come into play at this
stage: the geographical position of the Company, situated at
the foot of the Alpine range, to the south of the Dolomites,
enables the use of very pure water, almost totally free from
calcium though rich in minerals. This enables the uniform
distribution of the dye, which evenly penetrates all the
parts of the hide, the shoulder as well as the sides and
centre. As a result, the hides are softer and more supple,
easier to process, ensuring the success of the final
operation: the finish.
This operation is
performed by allowing the hides to be processed using a
roller coater that spreads the finish, a combination of oil
mixed with brilliant anilines (earth), in the quantity
required by the surface. This combination, which can be
noticed in the grain and is uniformly distributed, has a
darkening effect on the surface.
Once the hides have been
allowed to dry, they are ready to provide a stylish though
discreet accent to any home.
The grain, which has been
carefully nurtured from the very beginning, maintains its
characteristics without noticeable deterioration over the
years.
The
natural veins give it an appearance that is similar to that
of the suitcases sported by the late nineteenth century
travellers. This is not to be wondered at, since the tanning
experience, practical skills, secrets and clever tricks of
those days are our heritage, they have come down to us
unchanged. If today they are being applied to the living
room industry, this is due to a rediscovered appreciation
for natural objects that reflect an image of long-lasting
genuineness.
